Weaver Lake Elementary: A Science, Math & Technology School
The Science, Math & Technology School is a dynamic, thriving magnet school with curriculum and instruction that continually evolves to integrate national standards, best practices, and new technologies with core curriculum. The core curriculum is the Osseo Area Schools' curriculum in all subject areas. Value added standards in science, math and technology are integrated with the core curriculum and are included in value added projects at each grade level which include the use of technology tools and scientific equipment.
Teachers use inquiry based instructional strategies and differentiation. All teachers use Responsive Classroom strategies. Teachers work with a Curriculum Integration Coordinator and a Technology Integration Collaboration Teacher to team teach and to develop, review, and revise value added standards and projects.
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Support the development and implementation of the STEM magnet program
ILLUSTRATED DUTIES: The essential functions of this job include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental job duties:
1. Provide consistent development, implementation and monitoring of an inquiry based, standards based, curriculum integrated STEM program
2. Work collaboratively with teachers to develop, implement, and monitor the STEM program
3. Provide appropriate staff development
4. Perform regular classroom observations to assess appropriateness and utilization of professional development activities
5. Collect data and observations to determine whether the planned curricula meet the needs of students
6. Develop published curriculum guides for each program at each grade level
7. Serve as a liaison to and develop partnerships with outside agencies and businesses
8. Write grant and award applications; manage awarded grant
9. Work with evaluation and record keeping
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree; Elementary Education or other appropriate licensure, ie. Science, in state of Minnesota
2. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES:
a. Have experience or working knowledge in the areas specific to the magnet school:
b. Have experience with curriculum development, pedagogy, state and national academic standards
c. Have experience with developing and implementing staff development
d. Have experience/knowledge in curriculum and program integration for a diverse student population
e. Demonstrate management skills
f. Prefer 5 or more years of experience
3. CERTIFICATION: Elementary Education license or other appropriate licensure, ie. Science; state of Minnesota
