JOB TITLE: Guidance Counselor
DEPARTMENT: Guidance
POSITION
SUMMARY:
Guidance Counselor is charged with assisting with the planning,
coordinating, implementing and supervising all activities related to Guidance Counseling,
and enforcing and applying Gordon Tech College Prep policy and Illinois School
Code provisions.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Type 73 Counseling Certificate (Illinois)
- Master’s
Degree
- Administrative
experience in appropriate related field

school code and legal documents.

TO: Principal
SUPERVISES: Certified and
non-certified as assigned by the Principal.
PERFORMANCE
RESPONSIBILITIES:
I. Guidance Counselor
a.
Provide personal,
academic, college, and career counseling for individual students
b.
Work with the
teachers, administrators, and parents when a student is experiencing difficulties.
c.
Provide structured
developmental group guidance experience for students.
d.
Identify students
with special needs and make appropriate referrals.
e.
Administer and/or
interpret the Freshman Test, the Explore, the Plan, the PSAT, the Practice ACT,
the ACT, the SAT, the AP Test, and achievement, aptitude and interest test.
f.
Consult with parents
and schedule staffing for individual students.
g.
Schedule and conduct
support group.
h.
Maintain individual
guidance folders for each student.
i.
Monitor students on
academic probation or review; inform parents in writing.
j.
Act as a liaison (s)
when a student is ill. This includes
requesting homework from teachers and dialoguing with appropriate specialist
when special education is needed.
k.
Keep accurate records
of student credits in order to assist them in moving from one step to another
in the educational program.
l.
Intervene at times of
sexual or substance abuse; this includes alcohol, drugs, and food disorders.
m.
Assist administration
and PE teachers with students in medical emergencies.
