QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor Degree, valid Teacher Certification, Bilingual or ESL Certification
  • Five years of successful teaching experience working with English Language Learners
  • Knowledge of the district's education theory of action plan, second language acquisition and campus leadership experience
  • Knowledge of secondary curriculum and instructional resources related to English as a second language
  • Program development, implementation, presentation and training skills required
  • Excellent organizational, oral and written communication, problem solving, and interpersonal skill required to achieve the goals of the position

 

BASIC FUNCTIONS

  • Work in collaboration with planning teams to improve the quality of service and instruction for English Language Learners (ELLs) that are in alignment with district policy and initiatives
  • Collaborate with content and enrichment programs to provide equitable access to rigor in the language(s) of the instruction for the ELLs
  • Provide expertise, technical assistance, and training to secondary campuses to support the linguistic and academic achievement of the ELLs
  • Assist campuses in planning and implementing support for ELLs across all disciplines to achieve both campus and district achievement targets
  • Conduct content-specific and individualized workshops for campuses serving the ELLs with explicit instructional strategies for second language learners
  • Develop and conduct professional development for ESL teachers and other district stakeholders in alignment with state standards, and instructional strategies for ELLs
  • Keep abreast of current professional research and legislation affecting ELLs education programs through explicit staff development and local/national conferences
  • Contribute as a constructive and collaborative M-LEP team member
  • Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned
