POSITION AVAILABLE FOR 2012-13 SCHOOL YEAR  

1.0   American Indian home/school liaison for all district elementary schools

Eight hours per day with daily schedules determined by program needs plus a half hour unpaid lunch

Begins August 27, 2012 through June 6, 2013, 188 days per school year

Continued employment contingent on grant funding

Program Assistant Terms and Conditions of Employment

Job Level 7, $21.91 to $26.31 per hour plus benefits

Reports to the Director of Equity and Integration

 

RESPONSIBILITES

1.       Coordinates activities that support/enhance/strengthen cultural identity, using culturally-relevant materials and curriculum when appropriate

2.       Works collaboratively with school staff, families and community to:

a.        Increase the percentages and numbers of students identified as proficient in challenging subject areas, including reading, writing, math and science

b.       Increase the number of secondary students who participate and successfully complete rigorous courses and programs, such as AP and IB

c.        Increase the number of secondary students who participate in extracurricular and co-curricular activities

d.       Increase the number of secondary students preparing for college

e.        Increase knowledge of tribal languages

f.        Maintain and improve student attendance

g.       Provide dropout prevention activities to increase graduation rate

h.       Monitor students' academic progress

i.         Provide professional development training to district staff

j.         Serve as a bridge between the schools and families

3.       Assists school staff in the special education process to:

a.        Understand cultural differences

b.       Communicate with families and carry out due process requirements

c.        Gather information and implement pre-referral interventions

d.       Carry out appropriate assessments that are respectful of cultural differences

4.       Maintains grants that provide funding for Indian Education by:

a.        Collecting data on a regular basis

b.       Providing monthly written reports for American Indian Parent Advisory Committee

c.        Completing reports as mandated by tribal, state and federal agencies

5.       Other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS

1.       Four-year degree in education, counseling or social work required

2.       Knowledge of Indian education programs, as well as American Indian culture and heritage

3.       Knowledge of state and federal laws relative to American Indians

4.       Experience with Indian Education programs or Indian community organizations preferred

5.       Effective verbal and written communication skills

6.       Ability to understand and maintain confidentiality

7.       Strong time management and organization skills

8.       Able to attend work regularly and report to work in a timely manner
