DESCRIPTION:
Assist teachers working in Title I
programs or in schools receiving school-wide Title I funds in a
bilingual classroom by providing reinforcement in all academic
areas. Perform any activities or duties to help educate
students while maintaining a safe and pleasant environment in
which students can excel in either language.
Salary:
Classified Grade E, $11.81 - $13.58
per hour to start, depending on recent relevant experience. 6.5
hours per day, Monday - Friday. 9 month position.
Eligible for benefits.
DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES:
·
Instruct individual
students or small groups of students in all academic areas in a
bilingual classroom providing technical supervision and guidance
as required.
Maintain records of students'
progress.
·
Supervise and tutor
individual students and small groups without certified teacher
present including translation and interpretation.
·
Prepare classroom
learning materials/reinforcements and support activities as
directed by teachers, such as copying, book binding etc.
·
Maintain primary
relationships, plan, and make decisions with various classroom
teachers.
·
Supervise students on
playground, in the lunch room, and during other various
activities to ensure safety and security of students.
·
Assist with clerical
duties including typing, copying, and filing.
·
Discipline behavior of
students.
·
Assist teacher on
supervision of students during field trips, in the library, in
the computer lab, and during evacuation drills, including
translating, carrying out lesson plans, and developing oral
language skills.
·
Assist the certified
teacher in parent communications (English and Spanish) concerning
student's progress, upcoming appointments and events, staffing
conferences, disciplinary behavior, and medical needs.
Also, prepare written communication in
Spanish to parents as requested.
·
Assist with collection
of students daily work for portfolios, reports cards, cum
folders, and assessment data in English and Spanish and as needed
for parent/teacher conferences.

Administer English and
Spanish tests to students as directed by certified teacher to
determine student's academic skill level.
Also assist in interpreting during
testing.
QUALIFICATIONS:
·
The equivalent of an associate's
(or higher) degree (48 semester hours) at an institute of higher
education demonstrating knowledge of and the ability to assist,
i.e., instructing in reading, writing and math or a demonstrated
knowledge of reading, writing and mathematics.
Plus English as a second language
courses.
·
Evidence of passing an
approved assessment demonstrating the ability to assist in
reading, writing and mathematics if the higher education
requirements are not met.
·
Ability to fluently
speak, read, write, and translate in Spanish and English.
·
Good interactive
skills with children.
·
Must regularly lift
and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up
to 25 pounds.
·
Must be able to pass a
post offer, pre-employment physical.
·
Must be able to pass a
Colorado and Federal Bureau of Investigation background
check.
REQUIRED
EXPERIENCE:
0-2 years experience working with
children and children with special language needs.
