Pay Rate:
Salary Grade B: $9.68/hr, or appropriate placement on salary schedule. Benefits available.
Description:
Assists teachers with daily instructional activities and student management of students, who may be learning disabled and/or emotionally, physically and/or mentally impaired. Position is 35 hours per week during the school year.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned): Assists teacher in classroom operation and maintaining discipline.
Tutors small groups or individual pupils; may serve as note taker.
Assists students with schoolwork, test taking, organization, studying, and related tasks.
Assists students and staff in carrying out Individual Education Programs (IEP's).
Implements/follows teacher's instructions of classroom procedures - reinforcement, philosophy and consistency.
Assists with attendance reports, grading of papers and tests, set-up of classroom, preparation of materials for specialized instructional units, and other clerical duties.
May supervise student involved in non-classroom activities - recess, lunch, etc.
Makes appropriate referrals when difficulties arise and teacher is not readily available.
Demonstrates an understanding of student problems; keeps a firm hand, yet is courteous.
Operates standard school equipment such as laminator, copier, audiovisual, etc.
Treats all matters of school business in a confidential manner.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED, plus two years post secondary training, Associates Degree or ability to meet NCLB requirements. Prior experience working with special needs students helpful.
