This position is a collaborative
program between Farmington Public Schools and Simsbury Public
Schools and is located on the University of Hartford
campus. The position does include health insurance
benefits.
Qualifications: Skills and
knowledge required would generally be acquired with a
high
school education and some
experience working with children or adults
with disabilities, ability to lift
up to 40lbs. without assistance and eligible for a public
service license.

Job
Goal: To
support special education students in the classroom and on
internships sites through modeling, training, fading and data
collection.
Performance
Responsibilities:
1. Assist students 1 to
1 or in a small group to complete work.

2. Assist
with preparation of classroom materials.
3. Participate
in small group experiences with students as needed (Oakhill,
Best Buddy Coordinator.)
4. Assist students and staff with
classroom maintenance.
5. Assist with hands-on, practical
academic instruction.
6. Assist in community and social
training in the community by attending Community Trips.
7. Participate in health and
fitness training with students.
8. Maintain a public
service license and drive school van as needed.
9. Accompany students
to job-site internships on and off campus and assist students
with job tasks that may include pushing, pulling, lifting (up
to 40 lbs. without assistance), walking, standing, washing,
operating equipment, working outdoors, and working in cool
temperatures.
10. Make
contact with on-site supervisor.
11. Have
knowledge of and be able to perform all tasks required for
students to complete.
12. List
skills required for task completion.
13. Break
down task as necessary, model skills, provide assisted practice
and provide reinforcement and re-direction.
14. Fade as
students increase skill and performance level on job
site.
15. Obtain
normative data for job tasks.
16. Record
observations and note progress on job-site rubrics.
17. Assist
with lifting, toileting, and basic first aid as required for
individual students as needed.
18. Participate in FVTA staff meetings
and training sessions.
19. Perform
other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as may be
assigned by the administrator or supervisor.
TERMS OF
EMPLOYMENT: 188 day work year (180 student days, 8
holidays) 6.0 hours per day-plus non-paid 30 minute
lunch. Salary negotiated between the collective bargaining
agreement between the Farmington CILU and the Board of
Education.
EVALUATION: Performance
of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the
Board's policy on evaluation of non-certified Personnel.
