Description:Teacher
Assistants work under the supervision of a certified staff member for
the purpose of assisting a teacher, classroom, department, or program
which is in need of additional help due to special circumstances, such
as class size, disabilities of students, the need to manage records,
supplies, or instructional materials.
Job Summary: 1.
Participate in training and inservice activities as assigned.
2. Maintain confidentiality of information about students.
3. See to the personal safety of students supervised.
4. Fulfill the plans of the supervising certificated personnel, under
direct supervision.
5. Promptly report any problems or other pertinent information to the
supervising teacher, building Principal, or other relevant certified
personnel.
6. Provide individual and small group instruction.
7. Supervise students in a variety of settings, including before and
after school, at lunch and on field trips.
8. Manage and maintain records, materials, and equipment.
9. Attend to physical needs of students.
10. Work with volunteers.
11. Operate and do minor maintenance on computers and other
instructional equipment. 12. Type and duplicate materials, and do
similar clerical tasks.
13. Assess assignments.
14. Assist in preparing lessons.
15. Participate in staffings and parent conferences.
16. Contact parents as requested by the supervising employee.
17. Assist substitute teachers.
18. Perform such other related duties as the assigned teacher or the
administration may request.
Qualifications: •
Bachelors degree preferred; must hold or be eligible for the state
paraprofessional approval • Highly positive attitude with excellent
work habits Ability to work cooperatively and pleasantly with others • Excellent communication and
interpersonal skills • Ability to serve as a positive role model for
children • Interest in and enthusiasm for the position and education in
general • Appreciation of cultural diversity • Ability to speak Spanish fluently • Knowledge of computers and technology

Working Conditions: Salary:
$14.93 per hour plus excellent benefits including single health and
dental insurance paid for by the Board of Education, IMRF Retirement
Pension Service Credit, paid sick, personal, and bereavement
leave, and other benefits in a 7 hour paid work day.
