TITLE

GENERAL ASSISTANT
(Paraprofessional)
OBJECTIVES
Under the supervision of the School
Principal/Teacher, assists in the general routine of the school
and with the supervision of students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assists teachers in activities scheduled
including instructing individual students or small student
groups, correcting papers, coverage of classes during PPT's,
meetings, etc. and conducting the class lesson.
Monitoring students before school recess,
lunch time and at bus dismissal.
Supervises hallways, bathroom and study
hall.
Performs general clerical work for the
administrative office, departments or classrooms including
typing, operating office equipment, processing mail,
etc.
Operates a personal computer and typewriter
to prepare awards, report cards, etc.; operates audio-visual
equipment.
Ordering and logging in supplies.
Maintains proper discipline and control of
students.
Designing and putting up bulletin boards,
posters and completing work for classroom teachers.
Perform other related duties as
assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of basic office procedures and
equipment .
Working knowledge of general routine and
classroom procedures, and the supervision of students.
Ability to assist the teacher in student
instruction, either individually or in small groups.
Ability to monitor students and maintain
proper discipline.
Ability to operate a personal computer and
utilize required software applications.
Ability to recognize and report questionable
signs of abuse or neglect.
Ability to communicate and work effectively
with students, parents and visitors.
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT OPERATION
Operates a personal computer, typewriter,
calculator, copy machine, fax machine, TV, VCR and mail
machine.
REQUIRED PHYSICAL EFFORT
Must be able to sit or stand at an assigned
location, indoors or outdoors under a variety of weather
conditions, walk, work continuously for extended periods of
time, bending, reaching and lifting.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum)
Graduation from high school plus 3-6 months
of related experience or equivalent.
