School Nutrition
Position Summary:
Plans School Nutrition Program menus for a large school district; Completes a nutrient analysis of all menus and recipes; Plans and coordinates a wellness program to be implemented at all elementary, middle and high schools; Assists with product selection and bid development for foods to be used in the School Nutrition Program
Essential Duties:

Develops and monitors breakfast, lunch, snack, and non-reimbursable menus

Completes nutrition analysis of all menus to document compliance with USDA School Meals Initiative Regulations

Develops, tests, and standardizes recipes to include recipe adjustments, commodity usage, and recipe evaluations

Develops bid specifications for food and supplies

Writes proposals for nutrition education grants

Generates wellness communications for online and printed materials

Identifies nutrition resources to enhance menu planning and nutrition education

Evaluates menus and non-reimbursable food items base cost versus nutrient contribution

Identifies and locates new products for school meals

Assumes responsibility for USDA commodity ordering, allocating to schools, net off invoice items and processing

Develops inventory management tools and training for purchased and commodity foods

Updates production record training as needed for regulatory compliance

Maintains food item, inventory, recipe and menu data bases

Develops monthly menu calendars and posts to website

Maintains all data bases and processes related to food production and meal service

Implements Wellness Policy including evaluation with schools, staff and departments

Serves as liaison to local wellness groups and provides training for school activities to promote wellness

Functions as an Area Supervisor for schools as needed

Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree required with ability to earn Master’s Degree within time period mandated by State.
Certification:
-
Must be a registered dietitian; Must hold or be eligible for Clear Renewable Certificate or Non-Renewable Professional Certificate for School Nutrition Director as defined by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC)
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years supervisory experience in food service operations or a public school setting and 3 additional years of related food service experience required
Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge of food service standards including menu planning, food preparation, portion control, serving procedures, and sanitation practices

Knowledge of purchasing and financial management procedures
-
Knowledge of Federal, State, and local school food and nutrition policies and procedures
-
Ability to supervise and work effectively with departmental personnel
-
Good decision-making and problem solving skills
-
Proficiency with computer, data entry, and related applications

Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
-
Excellent organizational and leadership skills

Salary Range
Step placement credit may be granted for up to a maximum of 7 years (Step 8) of prior verifiable experience. Salary placement with Fulton County Schools is non-negotiable. Actual salary placement will be based on Fulton County Board of Education experience calculations from the Non-Teaching Salary Schedule B-235, Executive Scale, Step 1 - Step 8
