The Parent Educator reports directly to the FRC Site
Coordinator and is responsible for the Parents as Teachers Home Visitation
program.
Responsibilities:
implements the Ages and Stages assessment
and the Parents As Teachers
curriculum
plans and facilitates group meetings and home visitations
for families to learn about child development in a comfortable, play-based
setting based on the P.A.T. curriculum
assists in the development and implementation of
playgroup activities
maintains relevant data collection
identifies
service gaps and provides resource and referral to families
maintains certification as a parent educator by completing
the required continuing professional development with Parents As Teachers
maintains appropriate professional relationships with
families and adheres to standards of confidentiality.
assists
in the facilitation and coordination of related FRC workshops, events and
activities
other FRC activities or tasks as assigned by Site

Qualifications:
minimum 2 years experience in early childhood programs/services
or related field
holds or is eligible for Parents As Teachers
Certification
minimum Associate's Degree or 45 credits in
early childhood or related field
proven track record with planning and
implementing high quality children/family groups
ability to work in a team, but perform duties
independently
ability to model and facilitate appropriate
parent-child interactions
experience with working with a diverse
population
bilingual English/Spanish
Travel Requirements:
Must have own transportation and valid CT Driver’s
License. Frequent travel between schools
and homes is required. Mileage
reimbursement will be given for documented, work-related travel using personal
vehicle at a rate determined by the Meriden Board of Education. Client transport with personal vehicle is
strictly prohibited.
Employment:
This is a 20-25 hour per week position established with
enough flexibility to meet the needs of the program and the families
served. Some evenings and Saturdays may be required. Work days to
coincide with the school calendar and program operation. This position is in
effect as long as funding is awarded to the Meriden Board of Education by the
Connecticut State Department of Education. Position is subject to change or
termination based on program needs and/or State funding issues. Pay rate is commensurate
with experience. No benefits are provided.
Probation:
90 day probation period is required
beginning with the first day of employment. Based upon probation performance
appraisal, FRC Director will authorize employment or termination.
