Special Education Paraprofessional

Description:  This position will work in a middle school setting with students diagnosed with a variety of disabilities all in the mild to moderate range.


Job Summary:   The paraprofessional will work side by side with the teacher helping to deliver curriculum.  She will:  work on adaptations so students can access the academic curriculum, help students develop self advocacy skills , implement behavior intervention plans, de-escalate problem behaviors, assist with remediation of academic skills, etc.

Qualifications:  AA degree or 60 semester hours of college credit, or a HS diploma and a passing score on the ParaPro Assessment given in-district

Working Conditions:  Some lifting of approximately 40 pounds may be required.  There will be lots of hand-to-hand work with students at small tables, while not anticipated to be a need now at some point this person may need to get on the floor.   While toileting is not anticipated to be part of this job all paraprofessional hires should be able and willing to provide this service.  You may need to go outside in a variety of weather conditions.

Selection Procedure:  The district is seeking someone with experience working with or the aptitude to work with students with a variety of disabling conditions. Knowledge of how to work with basic technology is a plus.  Experience with instruction of core academic curriculum is a plus.
