The Hammond Academy of Science and Technology is seeking Science teachers. This new school will open in August, 2010, with students in Grades 6 through 9. One grade will be added annually through the 12th grade. The Academy will serve a diverse population of students. The curriculum, created by Purdue University Calumet, will have at its core, a research-supported, project-based curriculum, reflecting the complexity of the real world. Instructional technology will be infused throughout daily instruction and integrated into the curriculum and instructional methodologies. The Academy embraces the Comer Process, which emphasizes collaboration and consensus-building among stakeholders. Parents and teachers work together for the development of children. Partnership with local organizations opens the learning environment to the outside world.
There are multiple positions available. Preference will be given to candidates who are certified in multiple areas within the Science Department (i.e. Earth/Space, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Physical) and/or certifications in other subject areas (i.e. Social Studies, English, Math, World Languages etc.).
Experience with project-based learning is preferable but not required.
Candidates must be certified teachers in the State of Indiana or hold appropriate out-of-state certificates which qualify for transfer to Indiana.
