EMPLOYMENT:     10 months/year - Benefited - Full-Time position

SALARY:    Based on paraprofessional salary schedule

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Must be able to meet requirements for Highly Qualified certification by having the following:
    • At least 60 credits of college education or an associate’s degree (transcripts must accompany the application)
    • A passing grade of 459 or greater on the Para pro exam (confirmation of a passing score must accompany the application)
  • Fluency in American Sign Language (required)
  • Specific qualifications appropriate to the particular responsibilities of each position
  • Experience and/or training in working with students with autism and/or severe disabilities (preferred)
  • Ability to satisfactorily pass Safety Strategies and Restraint Training
 APPLICATION PRODECURES:     Submit a complete online paraprofessional application no later than July 12, 2012 POSITIONS DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES:    The person in the position of Paraprofessional at Brennen School - Delaware Autism Program has responsibility for assisting in the establishment and maintenance of an environment conducive to learning.  Following are some of the major tasks that the paraprofessional may be expected to perform:
  • Complete a wide variety of instructional assistance activities to reinforce the physical, social, emotional and intellectual skills of the students
  • Assist in emergency situations in classroom and with school nurse
  • Participate in in-service activities, workshops, and staff and para meetings
  • Provide ASL instructional support to students and guidance on ASL signs to staff
  • Assist in a variety of activities for special needs students as assigned, including dressing, toileting, and behavior support
  • Substitute for teachers or other paraprofessionals, as requested
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
