JOB SUMMARY:
This position is the receptionist and central switchboard
operator for the high school. Responsibilities include
projecting a positive image for the school, greeting and
assisting visitors, answering incoming calls, taking messages.
The position also performs a variety of clerical duties to
support the central high school office.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position performs all or a combination of several of the
following duties, depending upon individual assignment.
1. Greets individuals entering the
building (e.g. visitors, parents, students, vendors, etc.) for
the purpose of responding to inquiries; and/or directing
individuals to appropriate location in accordance with
established building security procedures.
2. Maintains the reception area in a
clean, orderly and welcoming manner.
3. Answers incoming calls on the high
school's central switchboard; provides general information;
routes callers to appropriate extensions or takes messages.
4. Helps coordinate substitute
assignments for building; assists substitutes upon arrival.
5. Compiles information for daily
announcements with PowerPoint presentation to students and staff,
and for posting on the school website.
6. Responsible for deliveries to the
building.
7. Handles phone, fax, or bell
issues.
8. Provides clerical support as needed in
central high school office to include typing letters, memos and
forms from handwritten drafts or corrected copy on word
processing equipment.
9. Assists with registration of
students.
10. Maintains a variety of files as requested.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND
ABILITIES:
SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a need to
occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job
conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to
satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include:
operating standard office equipment including pertinent software
applications.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including
calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a
variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats,
and/or present information to others; and understand complex,
multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific
knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform
the functions of the job include: professional telephone
etiquette and computer software (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, school-related software).
ABILITY is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or
events; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use
basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to
work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with
data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment
using defined methods. Ability is also required to work

with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize
job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to

WORKING
ENVIRONMENT:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's
functions require the following physical demands: some lifting,
carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling,
crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger
dexterity. Generally the job requires 90% sitting, 5%
walking, and 5% standing. This job is performed in a
generally clean and healthy environment.

Salary
Grade A: Minimum starting salary $19,879. (Salary dependent
upon experience)
EDUCATION AND
EXPERIENCE:
High school graduation or equivalent with training in clerical
procedures and two years of clerical experience, including
answering the telephone and greeting the public.
