Description
Position: Multilingual Learners Teacher (MLL)
Location: Sussex Technical High School
Reports To: Principal
Starting Date: January 2024
Qualifications:
- Hold or be eligible for license and certification as Teacher of English Learners in accordance with 14 Del.C. §1562. OR
- Hold or be eligible for a valid Delaware Bilingual Teacher Standard Certificate in accordance with 14 Del. C. § 1561 and certification in at least ONE content area.
- Experience teaching high school students preferred.
- Proficiency in written and spoken Spanish and/or Haitian Creole preferred.
- Manage and deliver all programming for MLL students including curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
- Organize, manage, and administer the annual WIDA Access testing. Provide parents with testing information as required.
- Deliver high quality instruction in small group settings in both push-in and pull-out models with MLL students.
- Record and maintain accurate data records for students who receive MLL services as required by law, district policies and administrative regulations.
- Plan lessons including designing activities with learning objectives using Common Core State Standards and WIDA language development standards.
- Participate in school and community functions to serve as an advocate for MLL students and families.
- Develop assessments to monitor student growth and provide feedback to families and staff.
- Work collaboratively with content area teachers and staff to support MLL students.
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
- Use data to drive instruction in content and language acquisition.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with families. Establish opportunities to engage with MLL families and support teachers in engaging with families to support students.
- Maintain records including those in online programs and document student progress.
- Develop and implement appropriate plans for students that include appropriate supports and accommodations.
- Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations and Board policies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Salary and Benefits: Pension and benefit eligible position. Salary commensurate with experience according to state and local salary schedules.
