JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Substitute School Nurse
QUALIFICATIONS: Must have a current LPN/RN license issued by the State of Georgia.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 months – 190 Days per year
POSITION STATUS: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Principal and School Nurse Supervisor
JOB GOAL: To assume responsibilities requiring a high degree of competence in the nursing profession. Will assume responsibilities under the direct supervision of the school principal and the system nursing coordinator, and will work under protocol approved by medical director.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assess all students or faculty coming into school clinic for signs of medical problems or illness
Refers clients with apparent acute problems to physician or other services available.
Refers any children appearing to need further mental health or social health counseling to proper resource.
Maintains daily log book and documentation of all student and faculty visits to school clinic.
Refers all pregnant students to appropriate health care providers.
Responsible for documenting all services rendered.
Responsible for dispensing all routine prescription medications as well as over the counter medications as needed.
Assists in setting up CPR/First Aid classes for faculty.
Responsible for teaching staff/students about prevention education, healthcare and related health problems.
Performs vision and hearing screenings as needed
Informs Principal and School Nurse Coordinator of all unusual problems to include client complaints within the day or as soon as they occur, depending on the implications.
Administers first aid to students and staff as needed for injuries or illnesses.
Assists personnel serving chronically ill or special needs students.
Files student records.
Maintains confidentiality of all student records.
Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance as needed.
Works with peers and supervisor in a tactful, considerate and cooperative manner.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the school administrator, School Nurse Supervisor, or central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
Follows appropriate dress code.
