Description

Elementary Music Teacher 

Position Purpose 
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students and by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc. 
 

Essential Functions

1. Teach music classes in a developmentally appropriate and engaging way
2. Develop and strengthen performance skills in the recorder, singing, and playing percussion, as well
as other instruments
3. Support a curriculum that focuses on a balanced approach to singing, instrumental music playing, and
creative movement
4. Create meaningful relationships and an inclusive classroom environment with students
5. Support the social and emotional development of students by collaborating and communicating regularly with
classroom teachers in order to support individual student needs
6. Evaluate all students on progress reports and at end of each semester
7. Communicate effectively with parents
8. Work collaboratively with the Performing Arts Coordinator
9. Participate in other school-wide activities throughout the year, such as committees, department and
staff meetings, and occasional evening or weekend school eventsDevelops and administers school elementary curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.

Additional Duties 
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment 
Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone. 

Travel Requirements 
Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

1. Ability to use training and experience to teach children of all ages.
2. Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control.
3. Good character, integrity, and adaptability.
4. Ability to supervise children of all ages.
5. Ability to relate to one's peers.

6. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure
manuals. 

7. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. 

8. Ability to speak effectively before groups of
customers or employees of organization

 

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
Works in standard office and school building environments. 

Qualifications Profile

  • Texas State Certification
  • Texas State Certification in the appropriate grade level preferred.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university; prior teaching experience required.

Experience
Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade levels a plus.
