Position Title: Cafeteria Assistant
Location: Southampton County Public Schools
Reports To: Cafeteria Manager
Job Summary: The Cafeteria Assistant supports the daily operations of the school cafeteria by assisting in food preparation, serving meals to students and staff, and maintaining a clean and organized kitchen and dining area. The ideal candidate will ensure a positive dining experience for students while adhering to health and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Food Preparation and Serving:
- Assist in the preparation and cooking of meals according to standardized recipes and menu plans.
- Serve food to students and staff in a timely and friendly manner.
- Ensure portion control and proper food presentation.
Sanitation and Safety:
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen, serving areas, and dining room.
- Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
- Follow health and safety regulations, including proper food handling, storage, and disposal.
Inventory and Supplies:
- Assist in receiving and storing food and supplies.
- Monitor inventory levels and report shortages to the Cafeteria Manager.
- Ensure that food and supplies are organized and easily accessible.
Customer Service:
- Interact positively with students and staff, providing assistance and ensuring a welcoming dining environment.
- Address any questions or concerns from students and staff regarding the menu or food service.
- Support a pleasant dining experience by maintaining an orderly dining area.
Record Keeping:
- Assist in keeping accurate records of meals served, inventory, and supplies used.
- Help with the collection and counting of meal payments when necessary.
- Assist in maintaining accurate production records as required.
Other Duties:
- Assist with special events and catering as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Cafeteria Manager.
- Participate in training sessions and meetings as required.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in food service preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of basic food preparation and kitchen safety procedures.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Physical ability to perform tasks that involve standing, walking, lifting, and carrying items.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Capacity to perform repetitive tasks, such as cutting, stirring, and serving.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Work Environment:
- Work is performed in a kitchen and cafeteria setting.
- Exposure to heat, noise, and food odors.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for special events.
