Position Title: Trade and Industry Teacher
Location: Southampton County Public Schools
Reports To: Principal
Job Summary: The Trade and Industry Teacher is responsible for providing instruction in vocational and technical subjects, preparing students for careers in various trade and industry fields. This role involves developing and delivering hands-on learning experiences, coordinating with industry partners, and equipping students with the skills and knowledge needed for successful careers.
Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Planning and Delivery:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive curriculum in trade and industry subjects, including areas such as automotive technology, construction, manufacturing, and other vocational fields.
- Provide hands-on instruction and training in relevant skills and technologies, using industry-standard tools and equipment.
- Utilize a variety of teaching methods, including lectures, demonstrations, simulations, and practical projects, to engage students and enhance learning.
Student Assessment and Progress Monitoring:
- Assess and evaluate student performance through practical demonstrations, assignments, projects, and tests.
- Monitor and document student progress, providing timely feedback and support to help students achieve their learning goals.
- Adjust instructional strategies and interventions based on assessment data and individual student needs.
Curriculum Development and Industry Collaboration:
- Develop and update instructional materials, lesson plans, and resources to align with industry standards and best practices.
- Collaborate with industry partners, local businesses, and professional organizations to ensure that the curriculum remains relevant and up-to-date.
- Facilitate opportunities for students to gain real-world experience through internships, job shadowing, and industry certifications.
Classroom and Lab Management:
- Create and maintain a safe and organized learning environment, including managing a trade or industry lab.
- Implement and enforce safety procedures and protocols to ensure a safe working environment for students.
- Oversee the maintenance and use of tools, equipment, and materials, ensuring they are in good working condition.
Career Readiness and Advising:
- Provide guidance and support to students regarding career exploration, job placement, and further education opportunities.
- Assist students in developing resumes, cover letters, and interview skills.
- Support students in obtaining industry certifications and credentials relevant to their chosen field.
Parent and Community Engagement:
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, achievements, and areas for improvement.
- Participate in parent-teacher conferences, school meetings, and community events to build strong relationships with families and community partners.
- Promote trade and industry education within the community through outreach programs, events, and partnerships.
Administrative Tasks:
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and other necessary documentation.
- Prepare and submit reports, lesson plans, and other required paperwork in a timely manner.
- Manage budgetary needs for instructional materials and equipment, ensuring efficient use of resources.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Vocational Training, Trade and Industry, or a related field.
- Valid state teaching certification in Trade and Industry, Vocational Education, or secondary education.
- Previous experience teaching trade or industry subjects preferred.
- Strong knowledge of vocational and technical skills, industry standards, and best practices.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students, colleagues, and industry partners.
- Proficiency in using industry-standard tools, equipment, and educational technology.
Work Environment:
- Work is performed in a classroom setting and trade or industry lab.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for school events, industry partnerships, and professional development.
