Position Title: Wrestling Coach
Reports To: Athletic Director
Job Summary: The Wrestling Coach is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the training and performance of the wrestling team. The coach will work with student-athletes to develop their skills, enhance their physical conditioning, and promote good sportsmanship and academic excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Coaching and Training:
- Develop and implement training programs that enhance individual and team performance.
- Conduct daily practices focusing on techniques, strategies, and conditioning.
- Analyze athletes' performance and provide constructive feedback.
Team Management:
- Recruit and retain student-athletes who can contribute to the team's success.
- Organize and manage all team-related activities, including practices, matches, and tournaments.
- Foster a positive and inclusive team environment that promotes sportsmanship and respect.
Academic Support:
- Monitor and support the academic progress of student-athletes.
- Encourage a balance between athletics and academics, ensuring athletes meet academic eligibility requirements.
Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure the safety of all student-athletes during practices and competitions.
- Adhere to all school, district, and governing body regulations and policies.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of wrestling rules and best practices.
Communication:
- Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents, staff, and administration.
- Coordinate with the Athletic Director to schedule practices, matches, and transportation.
- Provide regular updates on team performance and progress.
Program Development:
- Promote the wrestling program within the school and community to build support and increase participation.
- Organize fundraising activities and manage the wrestling program budget.
- Plan and conduct wrestling camps, clinics, and other events to enhance program visibility and engagement.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Sports Management, or a related field preferred.
- Previous coaching experience, preferably at the high school or collegiate level.
- Strong knowledge of wrestling techniques, rules, and strategies.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work effectively with student-athletes, parents, staff, and administration.
- CPR and First Aid certification required.
- Valid driver's license and the ability to travel with the team as needed.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to demonstrate wrestling techniques and participate in practices.
- Capacity to stand for extended periods and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Ability to lift and move sports equipment as necessary.
Work Environment:
- Work is performed in a gymnasium, wrestling room, and other athletic facilities.
- Occasional evening and weekend work is required for practices, matches, and tournaments.
