Position Title: Education Diagnostician (Part-time)
Location: Southampton County Public Schools
Reports To: Director of Special Education
Job Summary: The Education Diagnostician is responsible for assessing students to identify learning disabilities and other educational needs. This role involves conducting evaluations, interpreting results, and working with educators, parents, and other professionals to develop and implement appropriate educational plans and interventions. The Education Diagnostician plays a key role in ensuring that students receive the support they need to succeed academically.
Key Responsibilities:
Assessment and Evaluation:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify students’ academic, cognitive, emotional, and behavioral needs.
- Utilize a variety of diagnostic tools, tests, and procedures to evaluate learning disabilities, developmental delays, and other educational challenges.
- Analyze and interpret assessment results to determine the nature and extent of students' needs.
Individualized Education Plans (IEPs):
- Collaborate with educators, parents, and other professionals to develop and review Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with identified needs.
- Provide recommendations for accommodations, modifications, and interventions based on assessment findings.
- Monitor and assess the effectiveness of implemented strategies and adjust plans as necessary.
Consultation and Collaboration:
- Work closely with classroom teachers, special education staff, and school administrators to support students' educational needs.
- Provide guidance and support to teachers in implementing instructional strategies and accommodations for students with disabilities.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, case conferences, and parent-teacher meetings to discuss student progress and needs.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of assessments, evaluations, and student progress.
- Prepare detailed reports and documentation of assessment findings and recommendations.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations regarding special education and student assessments.
Professional Development:
- Stay informed about the latest research, best practices, and trends in educational assessment and special education.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance diagnostic skills and knowledge.
- Share expertise and provide training to school staff on assessment and intervention strategies.
Parent and Community Engagement:
- Communicate effectively with parents to explain assessment results, educational needs, and recommendations.
- Provide resources and support to parents to help them understand and support their child’s educational plan.
- Engage with the community to promote awareness and understanding of special education services and needs.
Crisis Intervention:
- Assist in addressing behavioral and emotional crises that may impact students’ learning and development.
- Collaborate with school counselors and mental health professionals to provide support and intervention as needed.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Special Education, School Psychology, Educational Diagnostics, or a related field.
- Valid state certification or licensure in educational diagnostics, school psychology, or a related specialty.
- Previous experience in educational assessment, diagnosis, and intervention preferred.
- Strong knowledge of learning disabilities, developmental disorders, and assessment tools.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with educators, parents, and other professionals.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and educational technology.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit, stand, and move around for extended periods.
- Capacity to lift and carry educational materials and equipment as necessary.
- Ability to perform tasks that involve interaction with students and staff in various settings.
Work Environment:
- Work is performed in a school setting, including classrooms, offices, and meeting rooms.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for meetings and special events.
