SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS
MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee all functions and operations related to the upkeep, repair, and improvement of facilities and grounds; Possess the leadership skills necessary to direct the work of the maintenance team; Plan, schedule and assign daily work orders to employees to ensure the safe and efficient operation of public buildings and grounds; Oversee the work of private contractors to verify proper permits have been obtained for work being performed and to ensure the quality of work being performed.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: Significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, pushing and pulling, occasional lifting, some stooping, and significant fine finger dexterity. The job is performed under temperature extremes and in a generally hazard free environment.

- Supervise and train the maintenance personnel for maximum productivity.
- Exhibit interpersonal skills to work as an effective team member.
- Ensure that safety practices are followed.
- Assist in all work areas when and where needed.
- Direct the work of assigned maintenance personnel.
- Perform energy management setup changes.
- Inspect all schools on a regular basis to ensure a safe and desirable condition for learning.
- Maintain all equipment manuals, equipment warranties, and tool inventories.
- Review work orders to ensure proper documentation.
- Establish and evaluate the preventive maintenance program.
- Direct employees in the use of safety equipment and procedures.
- Demonstrate initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities.
- Ensure adherence to good safety standards.
- Model and maintain high ethical standards.
- Follow attendance, punctuality and proper dress rules.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
- Participate successfully in the training programs offered to increase skill and proficiency related to assignment.
- Keep Director informed of potential problems or unusual events.
- Respond to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
- Follow federal and state laws, as well as school board policies.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledgeable of: working practices and methods of the building trades; principles and methods of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, energy, asbestos, and trades as applied to the maintenance and repair of large buildings and related facilities; materials, equipment, working procedures and methods required in a school district building and grounds maintenance
program, and in the repair and minor construction of school facilities; landscaping, plant propagation, soils, insecticides and gardening tools; laws affecting the maintenance, repair and construction of the school buildings.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or GED. Combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to oversee many different trades. Ten years experience in the field.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the System’s approved compensation plan.
Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the System.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/CLEARANCES
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
