Description

Crystal Lake schools have been around since the late 19th century when the first one-room schoolhouse was built by the Beardsley family. Today Crystal Lake Elementary District 47 enrolls approximately 7,300 students and employs about 1,200 staff members within its 12 schools, early childhood center, warehouse facility, and administrative building. Deeply rooted in the community, District 47 is proud to serve the needs of its students and families. Fast Facts: - Employment: approximately 1,200 certified and non-certified staff members and administrators - Enrollment: approximately 7,300 students Pre-K through 8th grade - Schools: 9 elementary, 3 middle, and 1 early childhood center - Area served: the District spans an area of 44 square miles including Crystal Lake, Lakewood, and parts of Lake in the Hills, Cary, Woodstock, Huntley, Bull Valley, and McHenry - Transportation: District 47 jointly operates the Transportation Joint Agreement (TJA) with District 155 providing bus transportation for students who live 1.5 miles or more from school.

To attain this mission, we uphold to following values: collaborative and respectful relationships equitable and timely resources engaged and innovative instruction growth and continuous improvement recognizing and accepting individual differences responsible and accountable stakeholders safe and secure environment social, emotional, and physical well-being District 47's curriculum is based on best practices and research that exists in the educational community. The District continues to have more students meet or exceed standards than the state average on standardized tests and offers quality special education, gifted, bilingual, and dual language, programming to support the learning needs of all students. The District offers both half- and full-day Kindergarten options for families with less than 1% of families selecting the half-day option. The early childhood program serves 250-300 students providing academic, speech and language, and physical and/or occupational therapy services along with tuition-based preschool opportunities. In addition, before- and after-school care is available for families at each elementary school through the Crystal Lake Park District. The District has worked to provide these and other quality programs while at the same time fulfilling its commitment to fiscal responsibility.
