Unified in 1965, Blue Valley Schools encompasses 91 square miles in southeastern Johnson County in portions of south Overland Park, Leawood and Olathe. These cities have been recognized in many national quality-of-life rankings. Money magazine named Overland Park one of the Best Places to Live in 2018. Blue Valley Schools is home to more than 54,000 residential housing units. Approximately 75 percent of the units are single-family dwellings and 25 percent are duplexes/condos/multi-family housing. The average household size in Blue Valley is 2.67 residents. Nearly half of Blue Valley residents are under the age of 40, with a significant portion of the population in the 20 to 44-year-old age group. The median age of Blue Valley's residential population in 2018 was 42.1 years old. The median income of all Blue Valley households is $116,934. According to information derived from the Johnson County Appraiser's Office, the average value of single-family residences in the school district is approximately $476,147. The following are just some of the many distinctions Blue Valley Schools and its students have recently earned: -Niche released its 2023 Best Schools in America Rankings and Blue Valley tops two Kansas lists-- Districts with the Best Teachers in Kansas and Best School Districts in Kansas. The district was also named a top 100 district in the nation at 69. Niche’s grades and ranking are calculated using dozens of public data sets and millions of reviews. -In Forbes’ 2021 Best in State Employers list, Blue Valley Schools ranked #2 overall in Kansas and the #1 ranked school district employer. -Blue Valley's ACT composite average for 2021 graduates was 24.2 with 1,731 testers. The state average was 19.6 and the national average was 20.3. -2021 Blue Valley graduates recorded another year of strong SAT scores while exceeding state and national averages. Blue Valley students scored an average of 1332 on the test that measures math and evidence-based reading and writing. In Kansas, the average is 1243 and nationwide the average is 1060 out of a possible 1600. Blue Valley had 123 students take the SAT in 2021, which accounts for 17% of all testers in Kansas. -All five Blue Valley high schools earned top 10 recognition on the U.S. News 2022 Best High Schools list for Kansas. College readiness and state assessment performance are key metrics within the rankings.
